Hungerford Marsh Lockdown Wood Planted

Updated: Dec 10, 2020

The first Lockdown Wood has been planted! About 40 people braved the winter chill today to plant 860 young trees in Westbrook Down, above Freeman's Marsh in Hungerford.

A most enjoyable morning was spent, and we all look forward to watching a beautiful wood growing here, replacing majestic ash trees which had to be felled due to ash die-back disease.

A ceremony will take place here in the spring, to dedicate individual trees to loved ones lost to covid-19, and to mark this as a memorial wood to this painful pandemic period.

Many thanks to all the volunteers involved, from HEAT, Newbury Friends of the Earth, St. Lawrence's Church and Hungerford Town & Manor as well as many locals.
